A rather nice author’s site called anatomy of a book deal, well executed and intriguing.

More and more I think Journals will be the first to go online and this is one of the examples I think set so high a standard. From the site:

Democratiya is a free bi-monthly online review of books. Our interests will range over war, peace, just war, and humanitarian interventionism; human rights, genocide, crimes against humanity and the responsibility to protect and rescue; the United Nations, international law and the doctrine of the international community; as well as democratisation, social and labour movements, ‘global civil society’, ‘global social democracy’, and Sennian development-as-freedom.

Democratiya really is exceptional, in its goals, beliefs and stated means. Journals in general aren’t winning at the moment because most of their pieces lie behind a subscription wall. However, even if such walls were expired, I wonder if, say, the Atlantic would surpass Democratiya in its popularity and the discussion it provokes around the blogosphere. Having returned from a 2 or 3 month break, the first place I went to find material to discuss was Democratiya; partially because I fall broadly into the liberal hawk tagline, but partially because the site is just so simple.

I wonder what makes it more popular; the fact that it’s so plain, or the fact that it is the brainchild of various blogger and internet types, such as Norman Geras.
