Nick Carr seems to realise that there is no democracy of blogging. One wonders how it took so long. It may only be the tyranny of entrenched links and the difficulty of building a link bank for new bloggers but it sure was obvious to me. Oh well.

Hi Eoin, I read Nick Carr’s piece with interest and some bemusement. Thanks for linking to it. After I finished, it occurred to me that he doesn’t quite have his finger on why so many people blog with so much enjoyment. The whole linking, linkback, Alist thing seems a little silly when you consider that many people don’t think about or care about that sort of thing. It’s only when you’ve got an inappropriate amount of investment in how big a splash your site makes that you would ever feel bitter about blogging. Like so many things in life, if you enjoy what you’re doing (and you’re doing it voluntarily after all!) that should be enough.

I hate to say it but Nick Car can come across awfully bitter in general. Seems strange when he gets so much attention himself.

I agree that most people who blog care so little for the A-lister nonsuch it is not funny. What si funny is that they argue/discuss so much about it. Even the dissenters seem obsessed with their staus!

In any case I do belive that if you want to build profile and get to that top spot you can. Build the links, drive traffic, write exceptional posts and network. Yes it may take a while, longer in most cases than techcrunch but why shoudl you not succeed? indeed what entitles anyone to be an A-lister except hardwork?

A-listers will not remain a-lister sif they stop for ever! That’s a fact!
