Great link, Eoin! Ransome’s books inspired a life-long passion for sailing and are among the earliest books I can remember reading. They did indeed leave an indelible impression, later reinforced by books like Lovely is the Lee by Bob Gibbings, a family member.

Now I need to go and buy Ransome’s biography!
