    Sadly, I am surrounded in my own workplace by people who have read 15 books on each subject compared to my measly 5, and so I never get that feel good factor. I can see I need to pick some obscure subjects and get reading…

    Ahh,

    That seems to be the response of many history academics, obscurity means success and tenure!

    Still it is often in the obscure fields that we discover really interesting elements of wider importance!
